My Approach to Nutrition and Health Coaching
There is no short supply of fast fads and obstinate beliefs about diet, lifestyle, and healing. That’s why I thought it would be important to share my personal stance as well as the foundations of my coaching practice for you to gain a better understanding of the TRS process—
My nutrition ideology and health coaching style is an amalgamation of what I found to be true and helpful throughout my healing journey, what I’ve seen work for the clients I've guided, and science-backed facts on how the body and skin function. Anyone who is connected to their intuition (I call it my inkling) knows when someone offers advice that makes sense to their lived experience vs guidance that sounds like a bandaid solution. That was my entire skin healing journey— absorbing information from a hundred different angles and trying to make sense of it all. This may be a familiar story to anyone with a chronic health condition, trying on different products and approaches left and right and waiting for your body to say “Yes! That’s what I needed this whole time! I’m so glad you solved the Gordian Knot!”. This (very natural) idea that someone, somewhere has THE answer to THE problem can make you feel confusingly hopeful and suspicious of everyone offering their help; or at least that was the case for me.
What I’ve seen and learned working with my clients—
Historically, the world of nutrition and health optimization bears a through line narrative: you pass or you fail, you either had a good or bad day regarding your habits, body image, skin function, and so forth. This is one of the biggest roadblocks to building supportive habits that stick for good, and it’s the first concept I start to unpack with my clients. Yes, there might be short-term protocols put in place that help expedite your healing process (supplements, dietary and lifestyle subtractions, etc) but for the most part, what you learn in our time together should be “have your own back” framework and knowledge that shapes the way you live long-term. Sustainable change happens gradually as you begin to integrate new knowledge, shift narratives, and become fully present in your body.
The philosophies I subscribe to—
I often get asked what “type” of nutritionist I am and what “diets” I subscribe to. My answer is that I am non-dogmatic and science based. Meaning, I keep myself up-to-date on what the research shows to be the most supportive diet and lifestyle habits for vibrant health and the healing of skin disorders; if my client has specific preferences that fall outside of those recommendations then we work to find the most ideal middle ground. For additional context, some of my foundational beliefs are as follows:
Food quality, quantity, and timing is more important than “good vs bad”
PFF is BFF– composing your meals with protein, fat, and fiber is my golden rule
Lowering your intake of inflammatory toxins and artificial food is paramount
Stagnation kills, keep it flowing with consistent hydration and movement
The body is wise and knows what to do when given the right resources. Since your system prefers the micro-dosing approach, meeting nutrient needs on a daily basis is the best way to avoid disorder and disease
My style of coaching and how I help people reach their goals—
These cornerstone beliefs have held up to be true for every client I've worked with, no matter their condition or dietary preferences. That said, there is an undeniable originality to everyone's story, depending on their unique genetic predispositions and health history. This is why following the scientific facts and blending it with personalization is the key to success. Although my coaching program is outlined, I always leave room for lived truth and individualism. If you've ever seen a life coach or therapist, the framework of my sessions is similar, just based around connecting your diet and lifestyle to your skin health. A client once described my services as somatic experience meets results oriented, and that is no accident baby.
My health coaching is offered as a monthly subscription geared towards personalized routine refinement. It includes bi-weekly calls, text support between, detailed resources, recipes, and product recommendations.
