Living an embodied life is about maintaining awareness of your physiological and psychological state (i.e how you move through the world). It’s important to distinguish between adopting new habits because you think you should or someone told you to and stepping into a life more fully yours.
Embodiment is an active state of being; it calls for paying attention to your choices, following your inner wisdom, and upholding boundaries. It’s what we all strive for, to be in the drivers seat of our existence. This isn’t to imply life suddenly becomes all roses when you are, it means you’re not waiting for the stars to align to exist confidently.
So I invite you to engage with an exercise I do with most of my coaching clients that I call “defining the energies of your lane”. Here’s how it works:
Make a list of the energies or characteristics you want to purpose towards. This list could be short or long, but it’s important it’s realistic. I recommend starting with what initially comes to mind and adding to it as you go. Keep it handy for reference when you want to intentionally call upon certain qualities or as a daily reminder of who you’re capable of being. An example would be:
Trusting
Compassionate
Humble
Generous
Active
Reliable
Living in this way is the precursor for confidence. When setting out to change any aspect of your routine, you’re reaching for alignment. Part logistics and part mindset, returning home to what’s best for yourself physically and spiritually is the practice that gets us closer to equilibrium.
