Seasonal routine shifts and finding your flow

We’re entering into the time of year where creating routines is a natural instinct. As we crave getting into flow and “back on track” in season shifts, it’s easy to set overzealous goals around habit forming. It’s likely you’ve been living in a loop of on/off diet and lifestyle patterns for while now (or forever maybe), but it’s not you, it’s the perfectionistic protocols and standards sold to us by Big Routine.

Speaking into some common thoughts around this—

01— “I’ve been busy and overwhelmed lately but things will slow down soon and then it will all come easier”

Not to tell you what to do, but… you must close that tab in your brain. A hard truth is that you set the pace of your life. Once you’re used to over committing yourself, that tendency doesn’t usually dissipate with the shift in seasons or jobs. It’s not to say you aren’t busy for good reason or the answer is to opt out of all commitments, but there is a way to make room for your body’s base needs like eating consistently, moving your body often, sleeping well, and integrating much needed social/alone time regardless of schedule. AND if you feel there truly isn’t, that’s the telltale sign you’re running on nervous system overload fumes and imbalance within the body is imminent. My coaching focuses on realistic habit forming which means taking stalk of all the spinning plates in your life and threading the needle of supporting your body and mind despite the circumstances. Routine is the riverbed for life to flow through.

02— “If someone could just tell me exactly what I need to do then I would reach my goals

This one. This one might be the crux of why the industry of nutrition and health guidance is such a touchy and subject for most people. We as humans are not random— we make our decisions for very specific reasons whether the reasons are obviously to us or not. So, that means if someone gives you a ‘plan’ that looks very different from how you’re currently living your life and then just checks in on whether or not you’re doing that plan, the chances of you actually integrating the recommendations and reaching your goals are slim. What usually comes up instead is overwhelm, shame, and negative self talk which is not a place we create authentic change from. What you really needs is someone who is able to tease out the dissonance between where you are now and where you want to be, telling you where to step next one foot at a time at the pace you need it at. This doesn’t mean it isn’t still challenging and active work, but it should be slow dripped and personalized so that you can make embodied changes that stick for good. Confidence en route.

03— “Once I can set a routine that follows the same sequence each day I’ll have it all together

I love to clarify that when I use the term routine, I don’t mean setting stagnant and impossible guidelines for living your life. I mean building out a tool box of options for yourself, creating predictability, and planning ahead so that you have your back and achieve your goals with breath and clarity. Thinking you could simply do the exact same thing everyday is perfectionist thinking and ultimately sets us up for failure. Instead, I help you identify the categories you must learn how to integrate daily, what your options are within those categories, and how to oscillate between your baseline, better, and best routines depending on the day.

True confidence is knowing what diet and lifestyle practices you need to be engaging with daily and planning ahead so that they all actually happen and create balance within the body and mind. Mastering the return is everything.

It’s exciting to uncover how you want your life to flow, learn how to stick with it, and then feel and look better along the way. Helping you get there is my specialty and The Series was created exactly for that. Reach out to learn more or work with me. Good things ahead.
